Purpose
The aim of this training is to provide candidates with the necessary knowledge and skills to safely enter confined spaces. It also provides candidates with knowledge on the governing standards (AS 2865:2009) and legislative requirements for entering and working in confined spaces.
Pre requisite
There are no pre requisites for this course.
Course Content
-The Confined Space Entry training plan is derived from the (RII09)Resources & Infrastructure Industry Training Package.
-Gas Testing Atmospheres is derived from the (MSA07) Manufacturing Training package.

Legislation in the Workplace- OH&S Acts and Regulations; Mines Safety Inspection Act and Regulations; WorkCover ACT Code of Practice; Australian/NZ Standards 2865:2009. Definition of Confined Space – AS 2865 definition; types of confined spaces. Plan Work- Job at hand; hazards of a confined space; assessment procedures; Control measures; training requirements; permit requirements; establishing sampling regimes; training requirements. Personal Protective Equipment – Breathing equipment; rescue gear; gas monitoring equipment; fire fighting equipment. Gas characteristics – Common gases and associated hazards; explosive ranges, UEL and LEL; flashpoints; vapour pressure; classification of hazardous substances; toxicology; irritants; effects on the body. Gas monitors – types; calibration; maintenance; interpret and report readings. Practical assessment – Prepare risk assessment documentation; set up gas tester, test and monitor confined space; Set up work site, safe access into confined space. Safe Working in Confined Spaces – procedures; types of work and restrictions.
Certification
ACT Australia Competent candidates will be issued with an Loadwise Australia Certificate/Statement of Attainment in Confined Space Entry. This course is accredited within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).
