By undertaking this training, participants will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to undertake gas detection and monitoring of potentially hazardous atmospheres in relation to working in Confined Spaces. This course is aimed at those in the mining, resources, refining and construction industries that are required to enter, work and undertake gas testing in confined spaces on a day to day basis

Course Content
The Gas Test Atmospheres training plan is derived from the Chemical, Hydrocarbons and Oil Refining Training Package unit of competency:

MSAPMOHS217A Gas test atmospheres

Legislation in the Workplace - Worksafety Acts and Regulations; WorkSafe ACT Code of Practice; Australian/NZ Standards 2865:2009.
Plan Work - Job at hand; responsibilities of gas testers; hazards of a confined space; establishing sampling regimes; control measures; training requirements; permit requirements.
Gas characteristics – Common gases and associated hazards; explosive ranges, UEL and LEL; flashpoints; vapour pressure; classification of hazardous substances; toxicology; irritants; effects on the body.
Gas monitors – types; calibration; maintenance; interpret and report readings.
Practical assessment – Prepare risk assessment documentation; set up gas tester, test and monitor confined space.

Certification
Competent candidates will be issued with an Loadwise Australia Certificate/Statement of Attainment in Gas Test Atmosphere. This course is Nationally Recognised, accredited within the Australian Qualification Framework (AQF).
